Although aware of her eclectic personality, director Annarita Campo never ceases to surprise us and here she is, once again, indomitable and unstoppable, on the crest of the wave.
This time, her challenge was aimed very high: to get in touch with the world of Hollywood to discover, and why not, steal the secrets and mechanisms of a world that makes each of us dream. With this spirit, the director joined the cast of one of the most important film productions of this period.
We are talking about the Cyrano film by the English director, Oscar winner, Joe Wright, freely based on the work of Edmond Rostand.
Wright chose Noto, Scicli and Ragusa as a film set while some shots were shot on Mount Etna and in Catania.
Cyrano is a musical starring Peter Dinklage, star of “Game of Thrones” based on the theatrical musical written by the director, screenwriter and theater actress Erica Schmidt, wife of Dinklage. Also in the cast are actors such as Haley Bennet, as Roxanne, Brian Tyree Henry and Ben Mendelsohn. The music, as for the play, was entrusted to Aaron and Bryce Dessner.
Becoming part of such a set is truly a source of pride and pride. Annarita Campo, also in this case, got involved and was not frightened by the fame or the depth of the great director, making professionalism and personal resources available.
They were three exciting months, lived on the set almost 24 out of 24, because cinema, for her, is like a drug: it loads it, it exalts it, it never tires it!
As she herself tells us "it was a unique, fantastic experience. It is always a pleasure, she adds - and an exciting challenge to deal with characters of the caliber of Joe Wright. And, to be honest, it is not easy to be able, in our part, to be together with such an important cast as that of Cyrano. Working with a director of Wright's depth is truly an experience that doesn't happen every day. I could hardly believe it myself! Then I discovered that behind the colossus there is a simple, genuine, cheerful and nice man, and this made it all natural and spontaneous. An experience that I will carry with me all my life. "
In these 3 months of intense work there was no shortage of moments of relaxation that the director Campo used to strengthen her friendship with actors, protagonists and cast technicians including assistant director Edoardo Petti, the great Hollywood actor Ben Mendelson, the beautiful Hollywood actress Halley Bennet and, last but not least, the great Joe Wright himself. And it was during a break in filming that Annarita Campo created two stylized portraits of the protagonist and the great director of Cyrano.
The film, produced by Metro Goldwin Meyers and by producers Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, and Guy Heeley, will soon be in cinemas where it will be possible to see the beauty of our land and the great skill within a poignant love story. of high-ranking film professionals. Benché consapevoli della sua ecclettica personalità, la regista Annarita Campo non finisce di sorprenderci ed eccola, ancora una volta, indomita ed inarrestabile, sulla cresta dell’onda.
Questa volta la sua sfida mirava molto in alto: entrare a contatto con il mondo di Hollywood per scoprire, e perché no, carpire segreti e meccanismi di un mondo che fa sognare ognuno di noi. Con questo spirito la regista è entrata nel cast di una delle produzioni cinematografiche più importanti di questo periodo.
Stiamo parlando del Cyrano film del regista inglese, premio Oscar, Joe Wright, liberamente tratto dall’opera di Edmond Rostand.
Wright ha scelto Noto, Scicli e Ragusa come set cinematografico mentre alcune riprese sono state girate sull’Etna e a Catania.
Cyrano è un musical interpretato da Peter Dinklage, star di “Game of Thrones” tratto dal musical teatrale scritto dalla regista, sceneggiatrice e attrice teatrale Erica Schmidt, moglie di Dinklage. Nel cast anche attori come Haley Bennet, nei panni di Roxanne, Brian Tyree Henry e Ben Mendelsohn. Le musiche, come per l’opera teatrale, sono state affidate ad Aaron e Bryce Dessner.
Entrare a far parte di un simile set è veramente motivo di orgoglio e di vanto. Annarita Campo, anche in questo caso, si è messa in gioco e non si è fatta spaventare né dalla notorietà né dallo spessore del grande regista mettendo a disposizione professionalità e risorse personali.
Sono stati tre mesi esaltanti, vissuti sul set quasi 24 su 24, perché il cinema, per lei, è come una droga: la carica, la esalta, non la stanca mai!
Come lei stessa ci racconta “si è trattato di un’esperienza unica, fantastica. E’ sempre un piacere,- aggiunge – ed una sfida emozionante confrontarsi con personaggi del calibro di Joe Wright. E, per dirla tutta, non è facile riuscire, dalle nostre parti, a ritrovarsi insieme ad un cast così importante come quello del Cyrano. Lavorare con un regista dello spessore di Wright è veramente un’esperienza che non capita tutti i giorni. Io stessa stentavo a crederci! Poi ho scoperto che dietro al colosso si nasconde un uomo semplice, genuino, allegro e simpatico, e questo ha reso tutto naturale e spontaneo. Un’esperienza che porterò con me tutta la vita.”
In questi 3 mesi di intenso lavoro non sono mancati i momenti di relax che la regista Campo ha sfruttato per rafforzare la sua amicizia con attori, protagonisti e tecnici del cast fra cui l’aiuto regista Edoardo Petti, il grande attore hollywoodiano Ben Mendelson, la bellissima attrice hollywoodiana Halley Bennet e, non ultimo, il grande Joe Wright in persona. Ed è stato proprio durante una pausa delle riprese che Annarita Campo, ha realizzato due ritratti stilizzati della protagonista e del grande regista del Cyrano.
Il film, prodotto dalla Metro Goldwin Meyers e dai produttori Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, e Guy Heeley, sarà presto nelle sale cinematografiche dove sarà possibile vedere all’interno di una storia d’amore struggevole, le bellezze della nostra terra e la grande abilità di professionisti del cinema d’alto rango. A quanti andranno al cinema per vedere questo splendido prodotto auguriamo Buona visione!
